TAILOR-MADE, FULLY CUSTOMIZABLE

Plants as a source of innovation

Thanks to its tubular structure and naturally dense fibres, bamboo provides an impressive resistance capacity. Bamboo fibre can withstand tensile stresses of 400 MPa compared to 370 MPa for steel.

As rigid as carbon, stronger than steel in tensile strength and capable of absorbing 5 times more vibrations than aluminum, bamboo is the ideal material for the manufacture of bicycle frames.  Its natural characteristics are extremely useful for any cyclist, from the most athletic to the most city-dwellers among us: the rigidity of our bamboo bicycles ensures their performance, the absorption of vibrations guarantees comfort. This is a major difference with traditional frames.

With over 1500 species listed throughout the world, about sixty are perfectly suitable for the French climate. Many tests of resistance and robustness have been carried out with the Anduze bamboo grove in order to find the most adapted species. In addition to the technical advantages, bamboo is one of the fast-growing plants that requires little maintenance and has a low water consumption. Compared to a traditional frame, bamboo frames are thought to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 90%.

Flax, a naturally technical fibre. This local resource is a real alternative to synthetic fibres in the development of composite materials. The hollow fibres of flax make it possible to absorb vibrations and its low density makes it a light material. Flax composites are known for their resistance to distortion and twisting. These technical advantages applied to cycling are interesting to improve comfort of use and reduce the risk of injury.

Tailor-made & 100% customizable

It is fundamental to have a bike adapted to the size of the user. This will bring comfort and performance: indeed a bike at the perfect size for the user will allow less effort to be made, while being more efficient. The 100% artisanal production allows us to adapt as closely as possible to the practice and morphology of each person; if we are certainly all equal, our experience has shown us that none of us has the exact same size. That is why we take six anthropometric measurements that we use to design the ideal framework not for everyone, but for each individual.

This quest for perfection goes beyond measuring. It is broadened according to the practice of our customers – what kind of urban use? what kind of sporting use? -, and their cycling philosophy – endurance, comfort, priority to performance, etc. -.Finally, some of our customers have particular requirements – wall display of the bicycle in offices, promotional item, etc. -.

Our approach of tailor-made has led us to develop more customization possibilities over time. Thus, the appearance of the varnish -matte, satin, gloss -, the hue of the bamboo -light, dark -, and the personalized engravings -initial, motifs- are so many possibilities recently offered by Cyclik.

Each of our bicycles is presented in a configuration that we believe is the ideal configuration; thus, it is generally linked to our practice and our vision of each of the typologies. Therefore, each customer is invited to choose his own equipment; each type of model is equipped on request. Our expertise allows us to guide our customers throughout the project in order to design a bike that is as close as possible to their expectations, their practice and their personality.

“Our quest for excellence does not only lead us to make the perfect object, it is only really perfect when it is the ideal bike for its owner.”

When our know-how is demonstrated…

Many steps are required to make these outstanding bicycles, from the choice of bamboo stubble to delivery. It is with a concern for expertise and quality that Félix Hébert manufactures Cyclik bicycles on his own. Meeting the future owner is the first crucial event in the design of a bicycle; it allows Félix to forge strong links with each member of the Cyclik community and also to establish a personalized project. These meetings are often the place for meaningful and unforgettable exchanges, through the fifteen or so measures necessary to create a unique bicycle that defines the practice and desires of the customer.

Once the model has been designed and calibrated according to the morphology and practice of the end user; we select our bamboo stems from the most beautiful specimens of the Anduze bamboo grove in France. Félix carefully selects the stubble best suited to each part of the bike; they are then pruned and engraved according to the purchaser’s wishes. Like a craftsman who works with leather, he makes sure that no defect compromises his work; the final product must be irreproachable. Then come the main steps of the fifty hours of work it takes to manufacture a bicycle. The use of a high-precision assembly table, also tailor made for Cyclik’s specific requirements, results in the surgical arrangement of the different tubes according to the settings defined upstream. Flax yarn is then woven around the junctions and coated with resin. A long and rigorous sanding process follows these steps, before varnishing the frame. We select and inspect all the peripheral devices and accessories that make up our products to ensure that they are of impeccable quality, whether they have been chosen by our customers or by us. The bike is usually picked up directly at the workshop, the last moment of waiting before the new member of our community takes ownership of it.
